Danny Dalton, 1948 ~ 2011

After many years of fighting a courageous battle with a multitude of physical ailments, Danny Lee Dalton of Castle Valley passed away at Moab Regional Hospital early Sunday morning, Oct. 23, 2011 at the age of 63.

Dalton was born in Delta, Utah on Sept. 8, 1948 to Alma and Betty Jo Lee Dalton, who preceded him in death along with one brother Douglas. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a church mission to the southern U.S. from 1967 to 1969. He attended Brigham Young University before serving his mission and enjoyed the mission area so much that he returned and attended the University of Mississippi after serving his mission.

Dalton was a successful restaurant equipment owner and also owned a water treatment company before ill health forced him to retire.

He married Linda Lewis in the Salt Lake Temple in l970 and that union resulted in the birth of three beautiful children, Misty, Keri and Ammon. The couple eventually divorced after the children were grown.

In 1993, he met Joanna Wixson Ehlers while working on a business project in Castle Valley. She was a widowed mother of 11 children at the time and they eventually fell in love and were married on March 14, 1994 in Moab. Together they raised her children who were still remaining at home and also adopted four young children of a broken family and added them to their family.

He leaves behind a sister, Darcia Day; two brothers, Jess Dalton and Rocky Dalton; and three children, Misty (Ryan) Jenks, Keri (Mike Auffhammer) Dalton and Ammon (Brandy) Dalton. Also surviving are 11 step-children, Cori Rose (Lori) Dyer, Deone (Jeff) Smith, Heather (Scott) Pett, Angelique Boyle, Jennifer (Kelly) Payne, Raelene (Rob) Blocker, Amber (Dennis) Malcolm, Jared (Stephanie) Ehlers, Faith (Brian) Satterthwaite, Ashley Ehlers and Joshua Ehlers; and four adopted children, Alisa (Justin) Marcus, Rebecca (Aaron) Spence, Henry Dalton and Mary (Jermey) White.

In spite of his own afflictions, he worried about those who he knew to be less fortunate and provided them with produce from his own garden and food donated by Moab merchants, all done quietly and anonymously. He also led an effort to raise money to help a person rebuild her house after a fire partially destroyed the structure. He dedicated himself to the service of others during the 17 years he lived in Castle Valley.

A service will be held at the Castle Valley Branch LDS Church beginning at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 28. Interment will immediately follow at the Castle Valley, Utah Cemetery.

They Live OnThey Live On

   Those we love remain with us
   For love itself lives on;

   Cherished memories never fade
   Because one loved is gone.

   Those we love can never be
   More than a thought apart;

   For as long as there’s a memory,
   They live on within our heart.
