Pefe Fidel Duran

Long time resident, Pefe Fidel Duran, 82, passed away on August 4, 2012. He was born on Jan. 6, 1930 to Carpio and Genevieve Duran in Longmont, Colorado. Pefe met Jessie Chacon in Glenwood Springs, Colorado and they enjoyed over 40 years together in Moab. Pefe served in the Army from 1946-1951, and then worked in various mining operations in Colorado until 1965. Pefe then brought his family to Moab during the uranium boom in 1966. After a disabling mining injury in 1982, he founded Moab’s local Food Bank where he worked until retiring in December of 2010. Pefe cherished spending time with this family. He loved to hunt and fish, and would never turn down a round of golf, a chance to play cards or an opportunity to beat the boys at a game of horseshoes’. Pefe enjoyed travelling and loved the outdoors. He was fortunate to spend his last days relaxing on a dream vacation, an Alaskan cruise. Pefe is survived by eight children, Elisia Shepardson, William (Glenda) Manzanares, Olivia Weishaar, Ruby (Dan) Robinson, Judy (George) Copeland, Lousia Martinez, Julio Lopez, Pefe (Loni) Duran Jr., seven brothers and two sisters, 29 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, and 15 great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Jessie, one daughter, his father and mother, two brothers and one sister. A viewing will be held at Spanish Valley Mortuary in Moab from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, August 10th. The memorial service will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, August 11th at the Community Church of Moab, 544 MiVida Drive.
