Louis Pete Lopez
Born: 11/22/1946, Telluride, Colorado
Louie was born January 22, 1946 in Durango, Colorado to Frank and Stella Lopez. Louie was one of seven children born to Frank and Stella. Louie was great in baseball and basketball in school. He was voted the most athletic in the whole school. He enjoyed hunting with his brothers, until the ummm funny mishap that Ricky had and then he gave up hunting. He also enjoyed his two sisters. Louie attended college in Gunnison, Colorado. After college Louie joined the Navy for four years working as an Airplane Electrician. When he came home from the Navy he married Marcia McDonald and had two sons, Jason and Kevin Lopez.
He and Marcia divorced and he married Lori McCurdy on Feburary 22, 1988 and they raised the four children they both brought into the marriage, Jason, Kevin, Michael and Stephen and Tiffany.
Louie worked with Texas Gulf now Intrepid Mining from 1977 till his retirement 2012. He continued to work with them as a consultant until he was diagnosed with Cancer in June of 2015. Louie lived in Moab, Utah till death. Louie loved to play baseball and was the greatest teacher to his brothers and sons. His boys grew up with baseball mitts in their hands. Louie also loved golfing. He and his brother Leroy golfed everyday and were always together doing everybody’s honey dos.
Louie and Lori spent lots of time on the Golf Course golfing in tournaments together and watching their favorite pastime of golf. They loved spending time with their children and grandchildren.
Louie was a long time member of the Catholic Church. He and Lori raised all of their children in the Catholic Faith. Louie loved to travel and watch his grandchildren play sports. He was so proud of all of his children and grandchildren.
Louie was always teasing everyone who he loved. He had a nickname for almost everyone. We all will have those special memories to hold in our hearts forever. When Louie became sicker he was the one to comfort us more then we could comfort him. He became even funnier. He said he looked like the Mexican Pope because of a picture he saw of himself all wrapped up in a white blanket, his humor was so endearing to the whole family.
Louie is survived by Wife Lori McCurdy Lopez, His son Kevin Lopez (Montrose, Colorado) Michael McCurdy (Moab, Ut) Stephen McCurdy (Tasha) of Washington State. Daughter, Tiffany Lopez (Grand Junction, Co.). His Mother Stella Lopez, Brothers Felix (Millie) Lopez (Moab, Ut) Leroy (MaryLou) Lopez (Moab, Ut) Rick (Pam) Lopez (Moab, Ut) & Sister Irene (Bob) Edwards, Cecelia Lopez, Joann (Nivas) Meryhew and Sandy Lopez of the Late Eddie Lopez(Moab, Ut). Grandsons, Tyrus & Jayden Lopez (Montrose, Co) Kyler, Kolbi and Granddaughter Bella Lopez (Montrose, Co.) Grandson Riley McCurdy and Granddaughter Taylin McCurdy (Moab, Ut) Jayson McCurdy (Washington State) Charlotte Lopez (Grand Junction, Co.) To many Nephews and Nieces to mention.
Louie is proceeded in death by his Father Frank Lopez, Son Jason Lopez, Brother Eddie Lopez, Niece Jaime Lopez Guynn, Mother in-law Carolyn McCurdy and Father in-law Cecil McCurdy and many other family members.
There will be a Memorial Service on, Friday the 16th of October at 2:00. St. Pius X Catholic Church. Fr. Bill Wheaton officiating.
