Vonna Dalton

Born: 8/18/1921, Grand Junction, Colorado
Death: 5/3/2016, Moab, Utah
Service: 05/07/2016, 2:00 pm, Moab Baptist Church

On Tuesday, May 3, Vonna Lucinda Foy Dalton, our beautiful, sweet mother and grandmother, slipped from the loving arms of her family to return home to her Heavenly Father. She passed away at the Canyonlands Care Center in Moab, Utah.

Vonna was born in Grand Junction, Colorado, Aug. 18, 1921 to Oscar and Loula Mae Owens Foy. Vonna was raised in and around Gateway, Colorado. She had a wonderful childhood filled with many friends and adventures that left her with memories that lasted a lifetime. She attended school in Gateway and Picture Gallery.

Vonna married Ralph Dalton on Nov. 12, 1937 in Moab, Utah. They were married for 65 years. They are the parents of Ralph (Joann) Dalton, Billie Dalton, Darrell (Merlene) Dalton, Judy (Shay) Fielding, and Terry Dalton. She has 15 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, 19 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by husband, Ralph Dalton; three grandchildren; her mother and father; and all her siblings.

Vonna is a charter member of the Moab Baptist Church. She has always been adventurous. She loved to go out in the hills with Ralph hunting rocks to decorate their yard, and there is a story behind every rock. She enjoyed several hobbies such as quilting (won many awards and ribbons for her quilts), ceramics, leather work, upholstery, and writing some poems. She loved cowboy poetry. She is known as a local historian and storyteller. She loved sharing her stories with everyone. She has done several interviews with different organizations regarding the history of Moab and the surrounding areas, some of which can be found in the Dan O’Laurie Canyon Country Museum in Moab. She was the first to sign up for the RSVP program and served as a volunteer for nearly 30 years.

Vonna lived a full and wonderful life. She was a sweet, caring and compassionate woman. She loved flowers and plants. She loved her family and friends and was always willing to help out in times of need. She will be missed by all who know and love her, but the memories of her will be with us forever.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 7 at 2 p.m. at the Moab Baptist Church at 356 W. Kane Creek Blvd.

They Live OnThey Live On

   Those we love remain with us
   For love itself lives on;

   Cherished memories never fade
   Because one loved is gone.

   Those we love can never be
   More than a thought apart;

   For as long as there’s a memory,
   They live on within our heart.
