Death: 7/20/2007, Wheat Ridge, CO Gloria Harris, 89, a longtime resident of Moab, died peacefully in Collier Hospice Center in Wheat Ridge, Colo., on July 20, 2007. While in Moab, Gloria worked in the local drugstore, in her husband Carl’s shoe store and later in records and insurance at Allen Memorial Hospital, where she eventually retired. Activities she enjoyed included playing bridge, golfing, reading, watching TV, rock collecting, gardening, crocheting, working crossword puzzles, dressing up for Halloween and decorating her house inside and out at Christmas. Native American Indians held a special place in her heart. She loved and respected their culture. She spent many hours volunteering for the American Heart Association. Her favorite movie star was John Wayne. She prided herself in being an “extra” in many of his movies that were made in Moab. Gloria was very gracious, and although she was a private person, she did enjoy people and had many friends whom she would greet with “Hi, my friend.” She is survived by her sister-in-law, Antonia Urrutia, two nieces and three nephews, as well as several great and great-great nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church, Allen Memorial Hospital or the American Heart Association.
