Following his graduation from Grand County High School in 1946, he enlisted in the Army where he worked in the motor pool as a mechanic for the occupation forces in Japan until his honorable discharge in January 1948. He subsequently attended Brigham Young University for a year, followed by a two and a half year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Norway commencing January 1950. In addition to his mission in Norway, Loren served two LDS missions with his wife Genevieve including an 18-month proselyting mission in the South Dakota, Rapid City Mission in 1991 and a two-year temple mission in 1998 in the Monticello LDS Temple in Monticello, Utah. They Live OnThey Live On

   Those we love remain with us
   For love itself lives on;

   Cherished memories never fade
   Because one loved is gone.

   Those we love can never be
   More than a thought apart;

   For as long as there’s a memory,
   They live on within our heart.
