Everett Lee Pyatt

Born: 2/23/1933, Old Fortt, North Carolina
Death: 11/9/2014, Grand Junction, Colorado
Service: 11/13/2014 2:00:00 PM, Community Church

Everett Lee Pyatt, 81, of Moab, UT, joined his heavenly family November 9, 2014 due to complications following surgery.

He was born Feb 23, 1933 on Crooked Creek in Old Fort, NC to parents Samuel and Maude Pyatt. Everett received his BS in Textiles from North Carolina State College in 1957. He married Jean Gates Pyatt December 30, 1978.

Everett had a career in the textile industry before becoming a builder and entrepreneur. Owner of Pyatt Construction Company and Pyatt Enterprises, Everett contributed to the lives of many in McDowell County, North Carolina. Everett was an avid reader and loved the outdoors. A man of few yet well considered words it was said that “when Everett talked - people listened.” Everett’s love of golf and the outdoors was only exceeded by his love for his family. Everett and Jean frequently hosted family gatherings and their home was often a gathering place for family and friends alike. Despite always being very active, Everett always had time when family or friends needed a hand with a yard or construction project and he was frequently there when family or church were in need. Everett lived a life of service to his family, his church, and his community. He will be greatly missed.

Everett is survived by his loving wife of 35 years Jean; his two sons: Dan Pyatt and wife Tania of Moab UT, David Pyatt and wife Jill of Louisville, CO; his step-children Ken Gahagan and spouse Kerry of Raleigh, NC, and Christie Ezell and husband Chris of Marion, NC; two sisters: Ruby Powell and husband Glenn of Marion, NC, Betty Jean Lunsford and husband Ronnie of Nebo, NC; and 8 grandchildren: Kylie and Gracie (children of David), Jessica and Austin (children of Dan), Emily, Sarah, Taylor, and Hunter (children and step-children of Christie); as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Maude; and sisters Maggie Miller and Mary Brownell.

A memorial service will be held Thursday November 13, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Community Church 544 MiVida Drive, Moab Utah 84532. An additional memorial service will be held in Marion, NC at a later date.

The family requests that friends consider a donation in Everett’s memory to Young Life in lieu of flowers.

They Live OnThey Live On

   Those we love remain with us
   For love itself lives on;

   Cherished memories never fade
   Because one loved is gone.

   Those we love can never be
   More than a thought apart;

   For as long as there’s a memory,
   They live on within our heart.
