Longtime resident, Ray Townsend, 88, passed away at home on June 28, 2019. Ray never knew a stranger, and was known for his quiet, gentle grace.

Ray was born April 16, 1931 in Nimrod, TX to Walter L. and Eula Townsend. Ray grew up in Portales, NM with 7 brothers and 1 sister. Mr. Townsend served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict, stationed in Germany. After returning to the states, Ray went to work for the Santa Fe Railroad.

In 1965 he transferred to the Green River Missile Base and made his home in Moab with his two daughters, Diana and Valerie.

Ray is survived by his wife, Fran (Gates) Townsend; his two daughters, Diana Hudson (Fred) and Valerie Mosher (Tony); 4 grandchildren and their spouses; and 5 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 6 brothers and 1 sister, and his son, Allen Lee.

They Live OnThey Live On

   Those we love remain with us
   For love itself lives on;

   Cherished memories never fade
   Because one loved is gone.

   Those we love can never be
   More than a thought apart;

   For as long as there’s a memory,
   They live on within our heart.
