Born: 4/20/1933, Hiawatha, Utah Jay was born April 20, 1933 to Herbert Louis Marshall and Geneva Riches in a small mining town high in the mountains, west of Price, called Hiawatha, Utah. After graduating high school in Carbon County, he decided to serve his country and joined the Air Force. He served during the Korean War as a jet mechanic, working with hydraulics. He was stationed in North Japan for three years; during his time there he fell in love with the people and the language. Jay was always excited to share his stories of his time overseas and find people to speak Japanese with. While in Japan he was ordained to the Melchizedek Priesthood in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by Col. Ernest Hillhouse. Jay attended Carbon College, USU, and CSU. He majored in both Biological Science and English. He worked many jobs during his life but the one he loved the most was with Living Scriptures. He was their top salesman for five years. In his later years, he also enjoyed being a substitute teacher. He loved being able to encourage his students to find a love for learning. Jay was a devoted lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He married Pat Henningson in 1961, and they were sealed in the Saint George Temple. They spent 58 years together, which Jay described as his best years. They were blessed with eleven children Cindy (Ken) Parker, Jeff (Kim) Marshall, Rose (Chuck) Adan, Jolene Marshall, Ann (Reid) Walkenhorst, Mary (Robert) Gordon, John (Serafina) Marshall, Jake (Samantha) Marshall, Sally (Sage) McCann, Daniel (Moriah) Marshall, and Megan Marshall. They have 27 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on July 18, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel 701 Locust Lane, Moab, Utah. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery with military rites. Tributes: Dear Pat and Family, My sympathies at this time of sorrow in your family. You can be proud of Jay and his amazing accomplishments and loving people. He was a mainstay at City Market, and worked there until he was pretty worn out, I think.- Mary Jane Cozzens Photo Gallery - Click a Picture For Enlarged Slide Show Printable Page Add Picture Add Tribute/Condolence PLEASE NOTE: Pictures and Tributes will be reviewed before being posted.
