Born: 9/12/1981, Houston, Texas But, that isn’t who he was. Adam was handsome, intelligent, and kind. He was well educated and enjoyed reading the classics. Some of his favorite authors included J.D. Salinger, Jack Kerouac, Edgar Allan Poe, Kurt Vonnegut, and of course, William Shakespeare. He was an accomplished thespian, with a strong singing voice. Residents of Moab may have seen him perform at a couple of plays, supporting charitable “Quick Draw” events, or heard his singing voice when he was a karaoke DJ at Club Rio. He leaves behind his grandparents, Anna Bires and Guy Blackburn; his parents, David (Deborah) Bires and Michele Blackburn; his God-parents, Uncle Dan (Clarissa) Bires and Aunt Lisa Blackburn; his siblings, Macey Bires and Neil (Barbara) Metcalf; and his nephews, Emmet and Marcus Metcalf. He had additional aunts and uncles, and many cousins, both in Moab and Houston, Texas. Adam George Bires was the namesake of his beloved grandfather, George Bires, who predeceased him in 2002. Adam’s remains will be interred at his birthplace, of Houston, Texas, next to his maternal grandmother, Juanita Robertson Blackburn (who was born in Moab, and died in Houston in 1972). Any and all friends and community members are invited to join a local rendition of a traditional New Orleans Second Line* parade, featuring members of the Fiery Furnace Marching Band. This “Adam-style” celebration will take place on Tuesday, October 22nd, at 5:30pm, starting at 71 South 400 East, and proceeding up Center Street, to Club Rio, and followed by music from Meander Cat. *Second line is a style of traditional dance, in which participants walk or strut (sometimes twirling a parasol or handkerchief in the air), as they follow the first line of musicians and immediate family. Tributes: Adam, What can I say but I am sorry. this world, and all of us, we failed you, and it is a huge loss. You were such a unique, and passionate soul. One who was massively misunderstood and tortured by life's stereotypes and ironies. Your intellect often gone unnoticed by the mob, but those who paid attention, knew that you were a genius. It's unfortunate that your gift became your burden. I can only pray you will be my angel in this life, so I can laugh more wholeheartedly, so I may stay young forever... growing old, with you. You are one of a kind, Adam. I'm better for having known you and, will always hold you in my heart, our little turtle. I know, you are at peace now, you are with, God. Sleep well, my dear old friend, love you. I will see you again some time, I pray. Love always- Em & AudieAdam, I will miss your laugh, your visits to my bus, and feeding you tater tots at Milt's. You endured so much and I am glad you are at peace now but I so much rather would have seen you find a happy healthy life. I'm so sorry it happened like this. With love. - JoeI was so sorry to hear this news. The world won't be the same without you. I know you were hurting especially these last few years. My sister Emily and I will always remember our good times together in Houston. God bless you and your family.
