Death: 1/23/2020, Moab, Utah
Service: 01/28/2020, 11:00 am, Community Church
Interment: 01/28/2020, 12:30 pm, , Sunset Memorial Gardens

Marvel Hope Zook, age 89, died peacefully Thursday, January 23 at the Moab Canyonlands Care Center.

Born on July 5, 1930 in Hutchison, Kansas, she was the youngest of five children. Marvel grew up in Buhler, Kansas and after high school, attended Bethel College in Newton, Kansas. After that, she went into voluntary service through the Mennonite church where she served in various parts of the Northeastern United States. As a young woman seeking adventure, she moved to Denver, Colorado where she met her future husband, Stan Zook. They were married in 1959 and recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

In 1980, she moved with Stan and her two children from Denver to Southeastern Utah when Stanís job with Atlas Minerals in their corporate office was consolidated and transferred to Moab. She began working as a home health aide with the Southeastern Utah Health Department and was a caregiver to many for 15 years until her retirement. She was a faithful member of the Community Church of Moab and for 40 years served there as a deaconess and on many church committees. She loved music and singing and was a long-time member of the church choir. She looked forward to the Moab Music Festival concerts every year.

Marvel was devoted to her family and she loved to laugh. Her beautiful smile could light up a room. She was a practical, positive and sunny person with the ability to see the up-side to every situation. Her life was a living example of strong Christian values. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

She is survived by her husband, Stan; her daughter, Terri; her son Kent (Karen); her sister, Glennis (Harlo) Schmidt; her grandchildren, Emmie Gerrard and Tyler, and her great-grandchild, Calvin.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Emma; her sisters, Ruby and Verda Mae, and her brother, Melvin.

A Funeral Service celebrating her life will be held Tuesday, January 28 at the Community Church of Moab, 544 MiVida Drive at 11:00am. Burial will follow at the Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery

They Live OnThey Live On

   Those we love remain with us
   For love itself lives on;

   Cherished memories never fade
   Because one loved is gone.

   Those we love can never be
   More than a thought apart;

   For as long as there’s a memory,
   They live on within our heart.
