J Raymundo Martinez

Jose Raymundo Martinez, 93, passed away Sunday January 19, 2020 at the Canyonlands Care Center.

He was born in Canjilon, New Mexico on November 30, 1926 to Tony and Genada Martinez. Raymund was the youngest, he had a half brother and two half sisters.

He met and eventually married Juanita Ascencion Garcia on August 13, 1949 in Aztec, New Mexico. They were married for 68 years. Together they started their family in California. Their first baby passed away, soon after their daughter Lucille was born then their sons Karl and Genaro (Jerry). They would return to Utah having their daughter Jesse in Moab and baby Johnny in Monticello.

He worked most of his life. He was taken out of first grade to work in the fields and never returned to school. He worked in the potato fields, herded cows and sheep in Colorado and the LaSals, in the shipyards and orchards of California. In the early 1960s he worked for the City of Monticello , from there he worked in the copper mill in Lisbon Valley, then he went to work at Rio Algonn in the early 1970s where he retired.

Raymund enjoyed hunting, fishing, and going to the casino in Towaoc with his son Karl.

Raymund was preceded in death by his wife Juanita,2 baby sons Martinez, and Johnny Clifford. Daughter Lucillie (Martinez) Venzor his parents, sisters and brother.

He is survived by 2 sons Karl Martinez, Jerry (Charlotte) Martinez both of Moab; daughter Jessie (Gus) Reeves of Colorado; sisters-in-law Arcenia Tafoya, and Nelly Garcia of Denver, sister-in-law Marry Ann and brother-in-law Benny Garcia of California, numerous grand, great-grand, and great-great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.

At Raymundís request cremation has taken place and a Funeral Service will be held Monday January 27, 2020 at 2:00 pm at Spanish Valley Mortuary. Burial of the ashes will take place at a later date in the Monticello City Cemetery.
