OBITUARY

It is with great sorrow that we announce, Gordon Doyle Butcher, age 78, passed away at his home with his wife and family in the early morning hours on December 8, 2024.

He was born August 20, 1946 in Salt Lake City to Merrill Butcher and Bessie (Higgins) Butcher,

Gordon served in Vietnam, he was awarded a Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and Army Commendation Medals. He owned and operated Gordon’s Service Station in Moab, where he met Verna. He retired from his career as a diesel mechanic for the Grand County School District in 2009.

He loved classic country, outdoor sports, hunting, fishing, woodworking and camping with his family. He loved spending time with his kids and grandkids and his friends at the VFW. He enriched our lives with so many happy memories, much love and endless laughter.

Survived by his wife Verna, his best friend, his soulmate, his forever after. Survived by his children, David (Almond) Butcher, Robert Anderson, Steven Butcher, Scott Butcher, Tonia Peterson, Jared (Dawn) Shumway, Jared Butcher, Josh Shumway, Nicole Shumway, sister Bonnie (Hans) Wingelaar and brother in-law James (Sandra) Foy and many grandchildren and great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents, and daughter’s Alicia Marie Butcher, Jennifer Knight, grandson Steven Tyler Nickle, and son-in-law Gordon Sevell Peterson.

He will be greatly missed by many.

At Gordon’s request cremation has taken place and his wife and family have decided to have a Celebration of Life to be decided later.
