They Live OnThey Live On

   Those we love remain with us
   For love itself lives on;

   Cherished memories never fade
   Because one loved is gone.

   Those we love can never be
   More than a thought apart;

   For as long as there’s a memory,
   They live on within our heart.

OBITUARY

Dorothy Ruth Rossignol, born Dorothy Jackman on September 29, 1930, in Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully one day shy of her 94th birthday, on September 28, 2024. Dorothy was a woman of remarkable strength and resilience, defying the odds from the start as she was born two months premature and not expected to survive. She went on to live a life filled with adventure, love, and service to her community and country.

Dorothy proudly served her country for four years as part of the WAVES during the Korean War, a testament to her courage and dedication. After her service, she and her beloved husband, Robert “Bob” Rossignol, worked at various mining operations between Nevada and Utah before settling in Moab in 1969, where they made their home.

In Moab, Dorothy worked as a seamstress at the Fritzy plant and later as a waitress at the Westerner Restaurant. In retirement, she found joy in her role as a beloved crossing guard at Helen M. Knight Elementary School, where she brightened the mornings of countless children. Dorothy also contributed to preserving the history of her community through her work at the Moab Museum.

Her family and friends will forever cherish the memory of Dorothy’s kindness and her dedication to those she loved. Her nieces and nephews will fondly remember the tradition of receiving handmade pajamas from their "Auntie Dot" every Christmas, a special token of her love.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Bob Rossignol. She is survived by her stepson, Richard Rossignol, as well as many nieces and nephews. The Canyonlands Care Center staff are proud to have called her family and shared her final journey with her.

Dorothy will be laid to rest beside her husband Bob at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado, where they will be reunited in eternal peace.

Family and friends are invited to share tributes online at www.SpanishValleyMortuary.com or www.SVMC.us.

TRIBUTES

I had the pleasure of meeting Dorothy many years ago when she made some incredible little rompers for my son. She was an amazing seamstress and took pride in her work. Sweet, sweet Dorothy you will be missed. I will miss seeing you at the care center and miss your smiling face and kind heart. My mom Judie will miss her walking partner and will be lonely without you. Rest in Peace my sweet friend.
